Who this applies to
This article applies to patients with a private prescription for an injectable treatment using Alprostadil as the active ingredient. The three formats available are Viridal Duo cartridges, generic Alprostadil vials and Caverject Dual Chamber. If you have a prescription that uses different wording or names a discontinued product, see the section below on what to do.
The three available formats
There are three injectable Alprostadil products currently available:
- Viridal Duo starter pack. Cartridges.
- Generic Alprostadil. Vials of powder and solvent that you mix yourself. This is the generic version of what used to be Caverject.
- Caverject Dual Chamber. Pre-filled disposable device.
Accepted prescription wording
The strength specification for all of these medications will depend on what your doctor has provided for you. Your prescription must use one of the exact wordings below.

What if the wording is different
If your prescription varies from the wording above, we cannot fulfil it.
You will need to go back to your prescriber and ask them to reissue the prescription using one of the three wordings shown above.
Common scenarios
- Your prescription is in the correct format but the strength is not stated clearly. Ask your prescriber to reissue with the strength written before "Microgram".
